The Blount, TN, County Board of Zoning Appeals turned down a special exception request by a man who was seeking to lease property to be used for auto repairing, auto dismantling and recycling operations. The denial was made May 5th.
Scott Loveday had requested the request at the site, which is zoned for automobile sales, but not for dismantling and recycling purposes.
According to published reports, dismantling and recycling are a less clear-cut operation for the location Loveday was seeking. According to the report, more than five inoperable automobiles on a site would classify the location as a junkyard, which are only allowed in industrial zones.
In the end, the request was defeated by a 3-2 vote. If Loveday appeals the ruling he would still have to get past the board of zoning appeals.
