Luxembourg-based steelmaker Tenaris, which operates mills and pipe-making plants in Argentina, Mexico, Europe, North America and Asia, says in 2018 it melted more than 2.6 million tons of ferrous scrap at its steelmaking facilities around the world.
The company released its 2018 Sustainability Report in April 2019, which includes a section on “Circularity and material efficiency.” Tenaris says scrap accounted for 68 percent of the feedstock at its melt shops in 2018, where it makes steel that will go into the pipes it produces.
Tenaris writes that it has “achieved these values due to the use of electric arc furnaces which allow recycling steel scrap without altering steel properties.”
