The Steel Recycling Services subsidiary of Luxembourg-based steelmaker Tenaris has acquired a metals recycling facility in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, from SA Recycling.
The facility is a 39-acre yard with an auto shredding plant adjacent to its steelmaking facility in Koppel, Pennsylvania, in the western part of Pennsylvania. The steelmaker purchased that former IPSCO Tubulars mill, which has an electric arc furnace (EAF) melt shop, in 2019 from Russian company PAO TMK.
Orange, California-based SA Recycling acquired the scrapyard when it purchased assets of the former PSC Metals from Icahn Enterprises in 2021.
Tenaris says its purchase of the metals recycling yard enables it to integrate its steel production with scrap processing, streamlining and optimizing its production process in the United States and strengthening its domestic manufacturing capabilities.
In its 2024 sustainability statement, Tenaris says the steel it produced that year consisted of 82 percent recycled content. The company says its use of EAF technology “means the use of recycled scrap is a key aspect of our operations.” Adds the firm, “We are investing significant amounts in scrap management.”
SA Recycling will continue to operate the yard during a transition period that will last into early next year, according to Tenaris.
