Tembec announced that it will shut down one of its paper machines at its newsprint facility in Kapuskasing, Ont., for an indefinite period. The shutdown will remove an estimated 75,000 metric tons a year from the marketplace.
Company officials noted that historically low newsprint prices, combined with the strengthening Canadian dollar and high energy and fiber costs in the province of Ontario had led to the decision.
Tembec also announced that it will be raising newsprint prices in the United States by $50 per metric ton, effective February 1.Latest from Recycling Today
