TechTurn announced that it collected and processed more than 40 tons of electronic scrap material during a free computer equipment drop-off event April 22 in Washington, DC. Sponsors of the event were the Environmental Protection Agency, Dell, and the National Recycling Coalition.
The event attracted more than 500 people.
TechTurn transported the computer equipment to its facility in Richmond, Va., where it is being processed for resale or recycling.
Before refurbishing or recycling the equipment TechTurn stated that it destroyed all the data on the hard drives to meet the Department of Defense and HIPAA standards.
