Taylor Garbage Service Inc., Vestal, N.Y., has begun full operation of a single-stream recycling facility in the New York
state’s southern-tier region. Southern Tier Recyclers, a subsidiary of Taylor, will operate the 30,000-square-foot facility.

Taylor and Southern Tier Recyclers collaborated to develop the facility, which includes mechanized and hand sorting for maximum material recovery from the waste stream, the companies say. The sorting and identification equipment, developed by Green Machine Inc., Hampstead, N.H., is capable of processing up to 25 tons of recyclables per hour.
The sorting system includes a Green Eye optical sorting system, which collects information at the molecular level from three-dimensional objects, according to Green Machine. The high-speed processor is capable of collecting information at conveyor belt speeds of up to 900 feet per minute with 99 percent accuracy, the company adds.
