The city of Tampa, Fla., is expected to offer its curbside recyclables collection program to every house in the city by the end of this month. The expansion will allow the city to collect from around 79,000 houses in the city.
The expansion follows the city’s previous program, which collected recyclables from around 25,000 houses in the city.
Last year city council members voted to expand the program citywide. The program was expanded gradually, with the final phase beginning Monday.
The program is excluding most large apartment complexes. Because of the expanded program, the city is removing its drop-off recycling stations scattered at parks and parking lots throughout Tampa.
The expanded program coincides with the city's takeover of curbside recycling from Waste Management Inc.
