| Sweed's Model 10-27 Mini Shear |
Sweed Machinery is adding three models of alligator shears to its line of equipment. The shears are designed to meet various scrap metal handling needs.
The company, based in Gold Hill, Ore., says alligator shears help facilities prepare scrap for shredding, add value to scrap and improve the quality of processed scrap. In a product release, Sweed points out that its alligator shears are simple to operate and feature fast cycle times, while maintaining a high cutting force for tough scrap material such as steel, bar, wire, cable, plates, tubes and other mixed metal products.

angles. Despite its small size, Sweed claims the 10-27 offers powerful and reliable performance. The shear is designed to fulfill the need for a portable trimming and clearing shear. The unit has a shearing capacity of 27 tons and a 10-inch blade length.
The company’s Model 16-50 Shear is ideal as a cleaning shear for light to medium reduction of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The large oil reservoir and cooling unit allow the shear to operate in extreme weather conditions without overheating. It also features a crush-proof foot switch that prevents damage to the foot control in the event it is run over by a forklift. The unit has a shearing capacity of 50 tons and a 16-inch blade length. The shear is designed for cutting skeleton plate, rebar, light mesh material and mild steel round bar.
Sweed’s most recent addition to its shear line is a heavy-duty cutter offering a solution for customers in need of a larger cutting capacity without the bulkiness of larger equipment. The 16-90 alligator shear features all of the benefits of its 16-50 shear, but, with a 10 hp motor, it provides nearly twice the cutting force (within the same footprint). The shear is suitable for cutting medium gauge ferrous and heavy non ferrous materials.
All units feature a remote foot control unit and include a safety interlock, which opens the jaw when the foot is removed from the pedal. Fork pockets are mounted at the base of each shear for ease of mobility, reducing strain on the operator and maximizing production.
