Sweed Machinery Joins Nextlife Recycling Alliance

Organization now includes world’s largest scrap chopper, stretch film and retail bag manufacturers.

Sun Valley Worldwide, a founding member of NextLife, a recycling cooperative of industry leaders, has confirmed that Sweed Machinery, Gold Hill, Ore., has joined the NextLife alliance. Sweed is a manufacturer of scrap choppers.

Sweed joins two other alliance members, Vanguard Plastics, Dallas, a manufacturer of retail and grocery bags; and Sigma Stretch Film Corp., Lyndhurst, NJ, a manufacturer of stretch film.

NextLife will promote recycling multiple waste streams, including stretch film, grocery bags, plastic strapping, cardboard, metals, textiles and electronics.

The NextLife program provides end users of recyclables with an additional channel for recycling. The alliance also provides end users with a single recycling partner for virtually all types of recyclable material.

Under the agreement, Sweed will market and promote the program to its sales force, distributors and customers throughout North America, while Sun Valley will purchase and recycle the material into “recycle grade” resins.

“We get calls every day from customers who do not have an outlet for chopped strapping. A single recycling program that can consolidate and coordinate the collection of multiple waste streams on a national basis is invaluable and until now, unavailable,” said Curt Spivey, Sweed Machinery’s vice president of Sales. “NextLife will allow companies to rethink their recycling strategies with a new sense of participation, accomplishment and profitability. We know the value NextLife brings to our customers, our company and our industry. We are honored and enthusiastic to be a part of this major initiative.”

Daniel Schrager, president of Sun Valley Worldwide, recognizes the impact of Sweed’s participation in the alliance. “With Sweed participating and promoting the NextLife recycling program, our alliance gains access to virtually every distribution center in North America. The immediate exposure will create awareness, and coupled with the unique and valuable service of NextLife, will allow us to make an impact much faster.”
