The county council of Surrey in the United Kingdom has approved a proposal submitted by residents to halt the planned closing of four recycling centers in the county. The council had initially considered closing facilities in Dorking, Cranleigh, Warlingham and Bagshot by April 2019.
There will be no closure pending what the council calls a thorough review of the waste and recycling services, and while the council looks at other options to keep the facilities open. The council says that if no resolutions are made to keep the facilities afloat, the four recycling centers will close by Sept. 30, 2019.
The decision has gained attention in Surrey, according to an online report from the Eagle Radio website in the U.K., because while the recycling centers have been spared, the council confirmed its decision to close 31 “children’s centers,” which provide early childhood education services and parenting advice.
