The electronics recycling company Sunnking Inc., based in Brockport, N.Y., has registered to process the obsolete electronics handled through New York State’s new Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act. The company says it is the second electronics facility to register with the state.
Under the law, manufacturers of electronic equipment are required to accept electronic scrap for collection, handling, recycling or re-use beginning April 1, 2011.
The law also requires electronics recycling facilities to register with the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) before they can receive any electronic scrap. These registered electronics recyclers also must submit an annual report to the DEC detailing their operations beginning March 1, 2012, for the period of April 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2011, and each calendar year thereafter.
“We’re really excited about the recent changes in the NYS law and the positive impact that it will have on our environment here in New York,” says Duane Beckett, Sunnking owner. “It’s important for us to keep these toxic materials out of our wastestreams and to be a part of the recycling community that promotes sustainability and reuse.” He adds, “Not only will this new law help create more jobs due to the increase in electronics recycling rates, but it will also help create a better quality of life for future generations.”
