Electronics recycler Sunnking, headquartered in Brockport, New York, has added an Untha RS100 four-shaft shredder, doubling throughput and enhancing material quality, according to a news release from Untha, which is headquartered in Germany with a U.S. subsidiary, Untha America Inc., in Hampton, New Hampshire.
Founded in 2000, Sunnking is an information technology asset disposition (ITAD) and e-scrap recycling company that processes large volumes of discarded electronics from commercial and residential sources. With more than 155 collection sites and serving a growing number of community recycling events, the company is committed to sustainable recycling and secure data destruction, Untha says.
In response to increased demand and mounting volumes of end-of-life electronics, Sunnking’s existing dual-shaft shredder had become a bottleneck in its operations as it struggled to keep pace and incurred rising labor and maintenance costs. The company turned to Untha for a solution.
Sunnking invested in the Untha RS100 shredder. The high-torque, four-shaft machine is capable of processing up to 13.6 tons per day, which was double the throughput of Sunnking’s previous shredder. Installed as part of a 75-foot conveyor line, the RS100 shreds mixed electronics, separating the ferrous material from the rest, which goes on to downstream recovery.
“Before installing the RS100, we simply didn’t have enough hours in the day to shred all the incoming material,” says Phil Bove, director of business development at Sunnking. “We’ve gone from being overwhelmed with equipment to wondering where we’re going to find more material to shred – which is a great problem to have!”
The RS100’s advanced RAM system and programmable speed and torque settings allow Sunnking to tailor performance to specific input streams, Untha says. Large items such as TVs and transformers, which previously risked damaging equipment, can be handled more safely and efficiently.
“The UNTHA RS100 has been a game changer for us,” Bove says. “It’s durable, flexible and allows us to process more material faster, while producing a clean, valuable output for reuse.”
Following the successful integration of the RS100, Sunnking is planning further expansion. A standalone facility in the Midwest is on the horizon, enabling the business to serve new markets and boost overall capacity.
