Rochester, N.Y.-based Sunnking Inc, an electronics recycling company with facilities in the New York cities of Buffalo, Brockport and Rochester, says it has achieved Responsible Recycling (R2) certification at its facilities in Brockport and Rochester. The company says it is the first electronics recycling facility in the state of New York to be R2 certified.
R2 is a voluntary certification specific to the electronics recycling industry, establishing requirements relating to environmental, health, safety and security. It was developed by a multi-stakeholder group facilitated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. R2 Solutions (r2solutions.org) is the non-profit organization developed to house R2.
In a press release announcing its certification, Sunnking says it coincides with the New York state Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act, which was signed into law May 28, 2010, by Gov. Patterson and requires manufacturers of electronic equipment to accept unwanted electronics for collection, handling, recycling or re-use beginning April 1, 2011.
“This is an exciting time for Sunnking, our employees and the residents and businesses in New York State,” says Duane Beckett, president and Owner of Sunnking. “We have always strived for zero waste production through our electronics recycling practices and achieving our R2 certification is another way for Sunnking to continually improve our internal processes to an even higher degree.”
He adds, “Being the first and only R2 Certified electronics recycler in New York state is a great achievement that was not easy to attain, but we couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication from every single employee that we have.”
