A nearly month-old strike at two mining complexes of Mexican copper producer Grupo Mexico SA continues.
The spokeswoman for the National Mining, Metallurgical and Similar Workers Union said talks between the union and the company are still going on, but reported no progress.
Employees at the facilities in La Caridad, Sonora; and San Martin, Zacatecas, rejected Grupo Mexico’s most recent offer. The agreement was accepted by employees at two other Grupo Mexico locations. The locations are in San Luis Potosi and Coahuila.
In a press release sent earlier this week, Grupo Mexico said the workers at La Caridad and San Martin failed to honor the agreement reached with the union's executive committee, and called for labor authorities to rule in the matter.
In a press release Wednesday, the union said it was an opportunity for the federal government "to make its offer to respect the autonomy of the unions a reality" by rejecting the company's intentions.
