Straight plc Wins Large Contract in UK

The U.K. company Straight plc, which provides waste and recycling container equipment to customers in the United Kingdom, has been awarded a three-year contract with the Dorset (UK) Waste Partnership. The contract is expected to have a value of more than £750,000 (US$1.164 million).

The contract calls for the Dorset Waste Partnership to overhaul its recycling and refuse services for all its properties in the county, exempting the cities of Bournemouth and Poole. In its place, Straight will install a new curbside collection program that is expected to unify the county’s 12 recycling collections into one standard system in order to streamline collection procedures to reduce resource requirement.

Under terms of the contract, Straight will manufacture and supply close to 200,000 products to households throughout the Partnership. Each Dorset resident will receive a Straight 7-liter Kitchen Caddy and a Straight 23-liter Kerbside Caddy for the indoor and outdoor collection of food waste. Households will also receive a Straight 55-liter Kerbside Box for collecting glass bottles and jars. As part of the Dorset Waste Partnership’s flexible service, a Straight 44-liter Kerbside Box will also be available to collect mixed dry recyclables for those properties unable to store a wheeled bin. Rollout is due to commence in October 2012.
