Green Planet 21 co-founder retires

Long-time recycler Steve Spence will remain a director of Green Planet 21.

Steve Spence, who has worked with Steve Sutta, the founder of Oakland, California-based Sutta Co., since 1999 and helped form Green Planet 21 in 2009, has retired from day-to-day operations of Green Planet 21 LLC.

Steve SpenceDespite retiring from day-to-day operations, Spence will continue to guide the company in his role as director and partner.

Green Planet 21 is a sustainability company that seeks to guide corporations in their journeys to zero- landfill status and with related sustainability goals. The company currently manages 11 plants, which process paper, plastics, organics and metals, and works with clients in 38 states.

As a recycling professional for 30 years, Spence has designed and built more than 20 recycling and document destruction plants throughout the western United States.

In May 2012, Spence was inducted into the Washington State Recycling Association’s (WSRA) Hall of Fame. He also served on the WSRA’s board of directors.
