Stena Technoworld, an electronics recycling firm based in Sweden, has acquired SIRA s.r.l, an Italy-based electronics recycling firm.
“The acquisition creates strong synergies and enhances our efforts to develop the market's best solutions for electronics producers in Italy and the rest of Europe,” says Roberta Marchesi, managing director of Operations, Stena Technoworld s.r.l of Italy.
Stena Technoworld, which has 27 facilities in 10 countries, recently acquired several Italian electronics recyclers.
“The important thing is to offer customers the best electronics recycling solutions financially as well as in terms of innovations, the environment and safety. The acquisition of SIRA reinforces this. Our collective production and expertise around Europe is a major asset for customers in each market," says Alexandre Comino, managing director, Stena Technoworld.
Phär Oscár, head of Stena Metall Group’s electronics recycling business area, notes that Stena’s processes and experience already have helped the company secure a leading position in the Italian electronics recycling market.
Sira was formed in 1997. The company, based in Fossò, Italy, is focused on recycling refrigerators, air conditioning equipment, computers, televisions and other monitors.
In a release announcing the acquisition, Stena says that every year more than 9 million tons of electronics are thrown out. Only 33 percent of this is collected, according to official figures from member states.
“In other words, there is a lot more to be done to fully utilize this resource. With our combination of large scale and innovative capabilities, we can make this a sustainable business from both a financial and environmental standpoint,” says Comino. “The acquisition of SIRA is another step in these efforts by Stena.”
Stena Technoworld has operations in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Italy, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Romania.
