Stena Metall AB, headquartered in Sweden, has acquired Norsk Metallretur AS (NMR), based in Norway. According to a Norsk Metallretur news release, the agreement is subject to approval by “competition authorities.”
NMR is a recycler of ferrous metals and obsolete electronics. The company operates 10 wholly owned companies close to larger cities in Norway. Of the company’s plants, five have their own shipping facilities. The company operates a 3,000 hp shredder to process scrapped vehicles and white goods, stationary and mobile shears, cranes, and baling presses.
The company estimates that it handles around 290,000 metric tons of ferrous scrap per year. Additionally, NMR has been processing electrical and electronic scrap since July 1999.
The news release says the owner of the family-owned NMR is retiring and the next generation is not interested in continued ownership of the company.
Stena Metall AB (www.stenametall.com) has been in business since 1996 when the companies Johan Johnsen AS and Skien and Brødr Anda AS merged.
The combined companies are expected to focus on expanding their operations, and the news release says they do not have any overlapping facilities and are expected to complement each other in covering Norway.
