Stena Receives Award for Electronics Recycling

Stena Metall has been awarded an environmental prize of €30,000 (US$36,000) by the Danish electronics association Elretur, a private association that was formed in 2005 to address the proper disposal of obsolete electronics. Each year Elretur awards an environmental prize to support projects that further develop the recycling infrastructure of obsolete electronics.

“With this prize we can concentrate even more on offering the market’s best solutions”, says Snorre Kolseth, manager of electronic recycling with Stena Metall Group’s Research and Development.

Stena was awarded the environmental prize this year for investments in minimizing waste after the treatment of electronic waste.

Stena’s facility at Ausenfjellet, Norway, pretreats large amounts of WEEE material. The material then receives final treatment at Stena’s Halmstad, Sweden, facility.

“Recycling as much as possible is an important objective for us, our customers and the environment. With the environmental prize we want to use new innovative methods to squeeze out the last metals, because we are dealing with finite resources,” Kolseth adds.

The research will be carried out within the Stena project, Zero Waste to landfill, which began in 2008.

Stena Metall Group has 18 facilities in ten countries.
