Stein Joins Alter Trading

Long-time scrap executive joins Alter Trading.

Robert Stein, a veteran of the scrap metal industry, joined Alter Trading Corp. He was more recently with Louis Padnos Iron & Metal Co., a Michigan scrap recycling company.

Stein will become vice president, Non-Ferrous Marketing for Alter Trading. He also will be responsible for the company’s expansion in both domestic and international sales and trading.

In addition to working with Padnos, Stein is the senior vice president of the Non-Ferrous Division of the Bureau of International Recycling, as well as the chair of BIR’s Internet subcommittee. He also sits on the New York Mercantile Exchange/COMEX division’s Non-Ferrous Advisory Board.

“We are excited that Bob has joined our company. Bob is a great addition to our team of scrap recycling professionals,” said Robert Goldstein, president of Alter Trading.

Stein will continue to maintain offices in Grand Rapids, Mich., as well as St. Louis. Alter Trading, headquartered in St. Louis, is one of the largest privately held scrap companies in the United States. It operates 16 scrap yards throughout the Midwest.

The company also operates Alter Barge Line, a barge line providing transportation through inland waterways.
