India-based information services provider SteelMint has prepared a podcast looking at ferrous scrap purchasing trends in Bangladesh.
SteelMint describes Bangladesh as “one of the world’s fastest growing economies and one of Asia’s most emerging markets in terms of ferrous scrap imports.” In 2019, buyers in that nation imported some 3.7 million metric tons of ferrous scrap.
The nation started 2020 on a similar pace, with SteelMint saying Bangladesh’s bulk scrap bookings in March hit a “record high” owing in part to a global shortage of shipping containers.
The podcast features SteelMint’s Shreya Divakaran interviewing Nishtha Mukerjee, SteelMint’s head of research, and Akshay Sharma, an analyst of the global ferrous scrap sector at SteelMint Events.
In addition to talking about the March bookings and switch to bulk shipping, the duo also discusses price trends and the outlook for the region in the face of the global COVID-19 “lockdown” economy.
Access to the podcast can be found on this webpage.
SteelMint had planned to present its 3rd Steel and Raw Material Conference March 23-24 in Chittagong, Bangladesh, but postponed the event because of COVID-19 concerns.
