Steel of West Virginia Inc., headquartered in Huntington, W.V., has announced plans to invest around $15.1 million in capital projects in 2011, primarily at the company’s No. 2 rolling mill facility in Huntington, W.V.
“The new equipment includes a dual stacker system, a yield optimizing shear, state of the art rolling mill control systems and upgrades to our mill stands,” says Timothy Duke, president of Steel of West Virginia Inc.
The equipment is expected to be installed by the fourth quarter of 2011 during the company’s annual downtime, which will result in no lost operating time at the steel plant.
The company invested around $10 million in 2010 for capital improvements at its No. 2 rolling mill. Equipment added at the site last year included quick change mill stands, a high speed reheat furnace, high profile laser gauge, new straightener, hot bed water cooling, dividing and head cut shears.
Duke says that the equipment will give the company the ability to have more uptime with its operations, as well as improve and enhance the steel plant’s operations.
The company is a subsidiary of Steel Dynamics Inc.
