Raipur, India-based information services provider SteelMint has announced that its 3rd Steel Scrap & Raw Material Conference: Asia will take place Sept. 11-12, 2017, in Bangkok.
The company says the event, which is being hosted at the Avani Riverside hotel in Bangkok, will examine the global steel trade at a time when it “is staring at transformation.” Says SteelMint, “On one hand Chinese scrap is threatening to alter global scrap trade dynamics; on the other hand we have countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia [that] are riding the consumption wave.”
Among the questions SteelMint says will be addressed at the two-day event are:
How will China impact the dynamics of the global scrap and steel market?
Will Pakistan become the second largest scrap importer in Asia?
Will Bangladesh double its steel consumption by 2022?
Will Southeast Asia remain import-dependent or increase its steel production?
What will be the impact of the new Indian metal recycling policy?
Will rising steel exports from India be sustained?
Will shipbreaking remain a scrap market feeder?
How will scrap supply dynamics shape up in 2017 and 2018?
Can the scrap charge rate be increased in basic oxygen furnaces from the existing 18-to-20 percent to 50 percent?
How can mill companies decrease operating costs at electric arc furnace mills?
Speakers scheduled to provide presentations or be part of panel discussions at the event include Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI) officer Zain Nathani; representatives from steelmakers in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam; and analysts from CRU and McKinsey.
