An explosion at a Beta Steel Corp. mill in Portage, Ind., has reportedly left one worker dead and two others critically injured.
According to an Associated Press (AP) report, the Jan. 7 explosion killed one worker and injured four others, two of whom were described by a fire chief as “walking wounded.”
The AP report cites the Portage fire chief pointing to water meeting up with molten steel as a possible cause of the explosion at the electric arc furnace (EAF) mill. The dead and injured have all suffered from burns as a result of the explosion, according to the report.
