The Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) has announced that the recycling rate for steel cans has increased to 63 percent in the United States for 2005.
This rate reflects another slight increase from the 2004 record-setting rate of 61.7 percent, according to a press release from the SRI.
Nearly 1.4 million tons of steel cans were recycled back into various steel products in 2005. “The 2005 rate is a solid demonstration that Americans are understanding that they can become part of the solution and make their community more sustainable by actively participating in their recycling program,” says Bill Heenan, president of the SRI.
