Austria-based Starlinger & Co. GmbH will have its odor control products for plastic packaging recyclers on display at NPE2018 in Orlando, Florida, May 7-11.
According to the company, “migrated substances or residues of monomers or decomposition products have to be eliminated” in recyclable plastic packaging applications that “are prone to suffer from unpleasant smell (e.g., polyolefin containers that were filled with detergents, cleaners, or cosmetics, but also polyolefin film with organic contamination).”
Starlinger indicates it has developed a technology that neutralizes odors on a permanent basis. This technology has been nominated for a Plastics Recycling Award Europe in the category “Best Technology Innovation in Plastics Recycling.”
The three-step procedure (material preparation, degassing and post-treatment) works without the use of additives and removes even deeply embedded odors, states Starlinger. At NPE, visitors are being invited “to take a sniff of the input material and the smell-improved regrind at a laboratory table with sample stations.”
Production in a closed loop also is a hot topic in the area of flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs) and consumer goods packaging, the company indicates. Starlinger states that its newest PET (polyethylene terephthalate) technology allows customers to use rPET flakes as input material for their tape extrusion lines.
Two types of packaging that are made from 100 percent rPET bottle flakes will be on display at NPE: an rPET FIBC for large product volumes and rPET PP*STAR pinch bottom bags for dry bulk goods.
The rPET PP*STAR has won a WorldStar (World Packaging Organisation) award in the category “Packaging Materials and Components” and is on the shortlist for the sustainability award, according to the firm.
The Starlinger display at NPE2018 will be in Hall West D, Booth No. 6885.
