PMI WW Brands LLC, Seattle, has launched Stanley 1913’s new Take Back program, an initiative aimed at helping customers recycle their used steel and stainless-steel Stanley 1913 products.
Currently available to customers in the contiguous U.S., the program accepts up to four eligible items per individual annually. Consumers can log their products on the Stanley 1913 website, where they can generate a QR code or prepaid shipping label and return eligible products for free. Once products are mailed and received by PMI WW Brand’s U.S.-based recycling partner, they are disassembled, sorted and recycled.
Program participants receive a $5 discount toward purchases made on Stanley 1913’s website. For each eligible item returned for recycling, PMI WW Brand says it will donate $5 to Ocean Conservancy.
"There's no doubt that switching to reusable products wherever possible is the right move for anyone trying to protect our ocean from plastic pollution," says Nicholas Mallos, vice president of Ocean Conservancy's plastics program. "Our engagement with Stanley 1913 is built on a shared commitment to a more sustainable future. We are thrilled to see them launch a take-back program that ensures their reusable products never become waste."
The program serves as an expansion of the brand’s “Built for Life” promise.
"Our 'Built for Life' promise has always been at the heart of our commitment to sustainability, with an emphasis on durability, design and sourcing,” says Graham Nearn, chief product and sustainability officer at PMI WW Brands. “We're empowering our community to ensure their well-loved products never become waste, making it easier for products to start their next chapter. This is how we contribute to a circular economy and work together to create in a better way, for a better life and world."
As part of that Built for Life promise, Stanley 1913 commits to lifetime product warranties for customers and says it aims to engage in ethical sourcing, low-impact manufacturing and use of recycled materials.
"Our new Take Back program represents an important step in advancing sustainability at Stanley 1913,” Emily Cichy, vice president of sustainability and social impact at PMI WW Brands, tells Recycling Today. “Last year, 65 percent of the materials in our products were already recycled content. Now, by partnering with our community, we can ensure those well-loved products have a next life, creating a continuous cycle that supports a more circular and sustainable future.”
