The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) and the Steel Manufacturers Association are jointly sponsoring a two-day seminar entitled “Steel Scrap 101: What the Industries Want Each Other to Know.”
The event has been scheduled for Feb. 10 and 11 in St. Louis by the two Washington-based associations to run in concert with the ISRI Mid-America Chapter’s Annual Consumers Night, which attracts a large crowd of scrap dealers and brokers each year to St. Louis for a dining and networking event. Like the Consumers Night, the seminar will take place at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown St. Louis.
According to the new seminar’s organizers, “Far from being a beginner’s course, Steel Scrap 101 is intended to begin a valuable and positive dialogue among [scrap and steel industry] participants to mutually improve efficiency and effectiveness of the steel recycling supply chain.”
The seminar will begin with late morning registration on Monday, Feb. 10 followed by a networking luncheon and the first sessions on “What Every Steelmaker Wants Every Scrap Dealer to Know.” Presentations by steel industry executives and managers will cover topics including how the condition of raw materials affects steel plant operations and product quality.
Additional Monday sessions will take a look at the health and cost-control aspects of the steel industry, followed by a “working dinner” that looks at the role of brokers and other intermediaries between the scrap and steel industries.
On Tuesday, scrap dealers and brokers will get their turn to offer perspectives on scrap facility management and issues facing scrap dealers, including how to cost-effectively procure scrap.
The Tuesday sessions will end in time for seminar participants to attend the Tuesday evening Consumers Night function.
Those interested in attending the seminar, the Consumers Night or both can obtain more information at the ISRI Web site, www.isri.org.
