SSI Shredding Adds Distributor in UK

SSI Shredding Systems Inc. (SSI), a Wilsonville, Ore., manufacturer of shredding equipment, has announced a distribution and service agreement with United Kingdom-based Challenger Group.

In a news release announcing the deal, SSI says over the past several years it has installed more than 70 high-torque, low-speed shredding machines in the U.K. The deal with Challenger Group, based in Hull, U.K., will allow SSI to meet the needs of its U.K. customers as well as grow its business, according to SSI. In addition to the Hull location, Challenger has two other locations.

The Challenger Group describes itself as offering comprehensive design, manufacturing, installation and after-sales service for systems in a range of applications throughout many industry sectors in the U.K. and Ireland. The company provides balers, compactors, conveyors, lifts, hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic power units along with equipment to provide services such as drum and IBC (intermediate bulk container) reconditioning.

“With the number of units we have in operation in the area, it makes sense for SSI to have a strong partner there like Challenger Group who can efficiently handle both the sales and service of our equipment,” says Joby Easton, sales & marketing director for SSI.

Richard Green, managing director of the Challenger Group, says, “I believe that this agreement is a great strategic fit for both Challenger and SSI as we have been manufacturing support frameworks, conveyors, lifting tippers, ram assist hoppers, etc. that feed material to and from shredders for many years. In addition, we have been providing after-sales service on a number of shredders, including cutter replacements and full re-builds on a number of different makes and models of shredders.”
