The Russian city of Khabarovsk has commissioned SSI Shredding Systems, Wilsonville, Ore., to build pre-load compactors to help the city reduce the volume of solid waste being disposed, while at the same time, creating a more cost-effective, safer and cleaner disposal process. The decision to install compactors is part of the city’s solid waste management plan to improve its air and water quality.
The compactor system being created by SSI will consist of two pre-load 2500 SPH EX, two-bale compactors, each with its own automated in-feed conveyor. Each compactor will be designed to form two, high density, square ended bales which will be contained and t

ransported to a landfill for final disposal. Compressing the waste into bales will maximize the amount of each payload and thereby significantly reduce handling and transportation costs for the city. The two machines combined will be able to process up to 1,200 tons of waste every day.
“This new system will not only reduce the volume of waste by compaction but will also significantly reduce the number of trips on the highway system. When compacted waste is transferred into containers for transport to the landfill, the waste is contained from spillage and leakage throughout the process.” says Dave Miller, SSI’s project engineer. This custom designed pre-load compactor system will be the first of its kind in Russia and the first compactor sale/installation in the country for SSI Shredding Systems.
The systems will be supplied to Khaborvsk’s waste transfer system.
“I’m happy to be able to help facilitate such a powerful solution for the city of Khabarovsk.” says Miller. “This will not only save a tremendous amount of money each year for the city, but also help improve the tremendous amount of money each year for the city but also help improve the community’s surrounding environment.”
