SRS Reports Surge in Obsolete Electronics Collected at California Plant

Company collects approximately 10,000 pounds of electronics at its first drop-off event of the year.

Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) has reported that it nearly tripled its December volumes during its first drop-off event of 2011 at its Roseville, Calif., facility, collecting nearly 10,000 pounds of electronics for recycling.

“It is typical for e-waste volumes to increase after the holiday season, when consumers are replacing their electronics, either through gifts they’ve received or purchases they have made themselves,” says Steve Skurnac, president of SRS North America, which has its headquarters in Chicago. “Consumers are becoming more aware of the importance of recycling their electronics safely and of the environmentally responsible options that are available to them. This event provides the community with a free, convenient, drive-through service at our secure recycling facility on the first Friday of every month.”
The company’s Roseville facility accepts televisions, monitors, whole and complete computers, laptops cell phones, telephones, printers, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, radios, stereos, MP3s, DVDs, CD players and VCRs. SRS does not accept household appliances, smoke detectors, microwaves, batteries, ink/toner cartridges or cans and bottles.
