Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) has announced that its electronic scrap and computer recycling and asset management facility in Hochheim, Germany, has achieved certification to the international health and safety standard OHSAS 18001. With the certification, the company notes that that all of its electronics recycling operations in Continental Europe now hold the standard.
OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems.
Sims began developing best practice in health and safety at its site at Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 2004. The Hochheim OHSAS 18001certification is another step forward in what the company calls its policy of replicating and standardizing best practices throughout its worldwide operations.
“Certification by the world’s premier verification body to the health and safety standard OHSAS 18001 gives official endorsement that our operational excellence is the best quality to be found anywhere in the world. This adds value to our business, keeps our employees and contractors as safe as possible and enables us in turn to offer the very highest quality of service to our customer base in Germany,” says Thomas Wolff, managing director at SRS’s Hochheim facility.
SRS operates two electronic scrap recycling operations in Germany. At its Bergkamen facility, Sims M+R provides materials recovery services to regional recycling companies, while Sims Technorecycle in Hochheim provides asset recovery services for redundant IT and telecommunications equipment.
