The last several years have witnessed dramatic changes in the international copper scrap landscape - the emergence and growth of China as the world's leading consumer; the demise of U.S. and E.U. domestic refining capacity; ever changing supply scenarios from eastern Europe. To address this complex situation and to analyze the host of intricate and formidable factors currently facing the industry a panel of leading international speakers will come together in the framework of the BIR Non Ferrous Metals Division’s headline event in Monte Carlo, "Spotlight on Copper", on 29th May 2002 at 9.30 am in the Monte Carlo Grand Hotel, Monaco.
The session, which will be moderated by Michael Lion (Lion Consulting Inc, USA, exclusively consulting to the SimsMetal group), will feature three leading international experts of the copper industry: Glen Gross, CEO of the U.S.-based copper trading company Wimco Metals, Simon Mao of the Chinese copper producer Shanghai Dachang Copper Industry Co., and Peter Müller of Austria’s sole copper producer Montanwerke Brixlegg.
The panelists will be sharing their experience of the secondary copper markets world-wide, examine material flows, and analyze past, present and future of the international copper business. These presentations will be followed by a panel debate encouraging the participation of delegates in the audience.
The President of Division, Marc Natan of Malco SA (France), and the Divisional board members decided to change the format of the traditional plenary session to respond to increasing interest from members to hear an in-depth analysis of market conditions around this important commodity.
