The Planning Commission for the city of Franklin, Ohio is in discussions with SP Recycling over a permanent business license for the company’s recently acquired recycling plant in the city.
Late last year the company, headquartered in Atlanta, acquired the business of Sam Mindlin and Son Recycling.
While the company and the city are in discussions over a business license, SP Recycling has been operating with a temporary business license. Jim Lukas, Franklin city manager and a member of the Planning Commission, said the former owner of the recycling business never had a business license, something that was only required several years ago.
One of the key points the two sides are looking to work through is the need for adequate screening for the business and the issue of right of way.
The commission has declined to approve the license, wishing to resolve the two issues first.
Fred Johnson, a spokesman for SP Recycling, said that with a little bit of luck the company could have the business license within 30 days. The issue of screening “is not an uncommon ordinance,” he added.
While SP Recycling operates the business, the former owner, Pacey Mindlin, owns the land and building in which the recycling facility operates.
Johnson said the acquisition is the first for SP Recycling in Ohio. The company operates primarily in the Southeast, although Johnson said the company is always looking for opportunities to expand its business.Latest from Recycling Today
