Southern Recycling Secondary Fibers Inc. has opened a plant in West Nashville on more than 25 acres of land. The firm is a subsidiary of Houchens Industries Inc., Bowling Green, Ky.
The new facility represents an investment of more than $4 million.
The staff that will head the Nashville operations worked with the former Steiner-Liff Iron & Metal Co. in Nashville where they served the needs of commercial and industrial accounts and various government agencies throughout Middle Tennessee.
Southern Recycling Secondary Fibers plans to concentrate initially on recycling paper and cardboard products, beginning ferrrous and nonferrous metals operations after June 2005.
"We have one of the best locations in this region for recycling," Steve Nedelman, president of Southern Recycling, says. He adds that the plant is located in an industrially zoned area on the river with rail service and highway access.
"We believe our location, combined with our many years of experience in recycling in this market, as well as our commitment to customer service, competitive pricing and dependability, will make us successful in this new venture," Nedelman says. "In addition to the immediate Nashville area, we also plan to market our services throughout Middle Tennessee."
The Nashville operation plans to establish a retail and industrial customer base, along with building a niche in the emerging document disposal and destruction market. The company will also offer truck and roll-off service, toll processing and baling and direct mill shipments and will spot trailers.
