The South Dakota Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a host of projects for either grants or low-interest loans that seek to increase of recycling in the state. In addition to the funds to be used for recycling applications, some money is being directed to groups with other environmental aims within the state.
Grants recently awarded include:
- South Eastern Council of Governments received a $100,000 grant for a regional recycling and solid waste revolving loan program;
- Vermillion received an $85,000 grant and a $200,000 loan to replace a landfill bulldozer; and
- Rapid City received a $1 million grant and loan package to assist Rapid City with leachate remediation and the closure of an area at the Rapid City Regional Landfill and to establish a revolving loan fund for eligible solid waste projects in six southeastern South Dakota counties.
