Sonoco, a global packaging producer based in Hartsville, South Carolina, has implemented a $70 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the United States and Canada. The company says the price increase is effective with shipments beginning Sept. 7.
The price increase comes in response to continued tight market conditions, the company states in a news release. Sonoco says strong demand across its U.S. and Canada mill network has led to order backlogs remaining at near historic highs as well as high inflationary pressures on papermaking.
The company previously increased its URB prices by $50 per ton in March as well as November 2020.
