Sonoco Products completes its previously announced acquisition of U.S. Paper Mills Corp., a privately owned company. U.S. Paper Mills is headquartered in De Pere, Wis. In addition to a mill at its De Pere location, U.S. Paper has a mill in Menasha, Wis., as well as core and tube converting facilities in De Pere, Oakdale, Minn.; and Jacksonville, Ill.
The acquired company had sales last year of around $70 million. The company specializes in production of lightweight paperboard for conversion into cores, composite cans and tubes.
Currently, Sonoco purchases less than five percent of its paperboard requirements from U.S. Paper.
This acquisition will bring Sonoco's total number of paper mills globally to 30, and total global capacity of around 1.75 million tons.
