Sonoco announced that it will close its tube and core plant in Canandaigua, N.Y., as part of its previously announced plans to reduce its overall cost structure. The plant closing will be phased over the next year.
The Canandaigua operations will be consolidated into other facilities in the immediate area. The plant manufactures tubes and cores for the film and converting industries. Sonoco has operated the plant since 1968.
M. Jack Sanders, vice president, Industrial Products - North America, said, "The company has adequate capacity to absorb the volume from Canandaigua, and the closing will not adversely impact the Company's capability to serve its markets and customers," said Sanders.
