Sonoco-Alcore Hiking Prices in Europe

Paperboard company will raise prices for paperboard, tubes and cores, effective April 6, 2010.

Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. announced plans to increase prices for all uncoated recycled paperboard grades in all European markets by 30 Euros (US$40) per metric ton on all shipments, effective April 6, 2010.

In addition, the company is increasing prices on all European tubes and cores by 9.5 percent, effective with all shipments on April 19, 2010.

“The cost of recovered paper has continued to increase due to strong global demand and shortages of supply,” says Eddie Smith, VP, Sonoco-Alcore Europe. “We recognize there is never a good time to raise prices. However, we must recoup this rapid increase in our primary raw material costs through higher prices in coreboard, partition board and other uncoated recycled boards. Furthermore, we must pass on these higher recycled paperboard costs to our tubes and cores customers.”

“We remain focused on controlling costs to lessen the impact on our customers. However, higher raw material inflation is driven by market factors which are beyond our control,” adds Smith.
