Sonoco signed an agreement to purchase the Hutchinson, Kansas paperboard mill from Republic Group, LLC. The mill has a capacity of 90,000 tons per year. The mill produces tissue and towel coreboard. It is a sizable consumer of recovered fiber in the Midwest.
Republic Group is a privately owned company that owns a number of recovered fiber plants, as well as mills producing a host of recycled-content paper products.
Sonoco Products, prior to its announced acquisition, has been a significant buyer of the mill’s finished product.
