According to an article from Decaturish, the city of Decatur, Georgia’s new glass collection service is experiencing difficulties as some residents say their recyclables were not collected.
The city began collecting glass separately from other recyclables July 1, 2016, to prevent contamination. Under the new policy, residents are required to provide their own containers for glass recycling.
According to the article, glass recyclables are picked up at a different time than other materials, which may have led residents to believe they had been passed over.
“Overall, the rollout is going well,” according to a press release issued by the city’s Public Works Department. “But we do have a few tips to share about glass collection that will help ensure the long-term success of the program. If we missed your glass recyclables this week, we apologize for any inconvenience. Please make sure that it is properly prepared and not contaminated. We will collect your items on the next regularly scheduled service day.”
