U.S. Plastic Lumber signed a letter of intent to test and use post-consumer carpet for some of its DuraTie composite railroad cross ties. Other products USPL expects to test with the carpet include Trimax dimensional lumber and marine timbers.
Partners for Renewal is an initiative designed to facilitate the recovery and reuse the valuable natural resources embodied in post consumer carpet. "Our strategy is to promote collaboration and encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in order to accomplish our key objectives," said Robert Peoples, director of Carpet Sustainability & Business Development. "Our primary objective is to find new ways to divert carpet from landfills through innovative new processes and product technology.
"Solutia is excited to be working with U.S. Plastic Lumber. Our objective is to deliver real solutions to the challenge of carpet landfill diversion. This is yet another major step forward in our ability to meet our commitment and support the mission of the Carpet America Recovery Effort," said Kaye Gosline, director, Contract Fiber Sales for Solutia Inc.
