Smurfit-MBI, a unit of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., plans to build a C$60 million corrugated container plant in Milton, Ontario, to further expand its production capacity.
The container company said that the plant, which will be highly automated, will employ about 100 workers and should be operational by the end of the third quarter of 2004.
The Smurfit unit expects the new facility will produce about 2 billion square feet of converted boxes each year. Smurfit said the plant should benefit other Smurfit-Stone mills in Canada through increased consumption of their containerboard products.
The company said the facility is part of its plan to support growth in Canada and better serve the just-in-time delivery needs of its customers.Latest from Recycling Today
