Smurfit Kappa Recycling Appoints External Affairs Manager

Public affairs executive Peter Seggie hired to the newly created role.

Smurfit Kappa Recycling has appointed Peter Seggie to the newly created role of external affairs manager. Seggie will work with the company’s external stakeholders.

As part of a wider role within the Smurfit Kappa Group, Seggie also will handle external affairs in Europe and work with the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI).

Seggie brings extensive public affairs experience in the paper and recycling sectors, having most recently worked as general secretary at the Recycling Association and before that as recovered paper sector manager with the UK’s Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI).

Prior to moving into public affairs Seggie worked for more than 13 years at paper manufacturers Klippan, Inveresk and JR Crompton.

“We are delighted that Peter has chosen to join us,” says Simon Weston, managing director of Smurfit Kappa Recycling. “There are many issues bearing down on the recovered fiber market and his knowledge and experience is critical to our intention to provide thought leadership to the industry.”

“Paper recycling provides huge economic, social and environmental benefits to the global economy, and Smurfit Kappa is leading the way in this field,” Seggie observes. “I am very excited to be taking up such an important role with the world’s leading fiber-based packaging group. As a company we want to ensure that the benefits of paper recycling are maximized, and my task will be to work in partnership with our external stakeholders to achieve this.”

Smurfit Kappa Recycling is a part of Smurfit Kappa Group. The parent company has paper mills in Snodland, Kent and Birmingham, U.K., and reprocesses about 500,000 metric tons of material per year.
