Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., based in Creve Coeur, Mo., and Chicago, has announced the promotion of Matt Denton to senior vice president of business planning and analysis.
“Matt’s outstanding financial and strategic capabilities are an important asset to Smurfit-Stone, and he has played a significant role in our financial restructuring,” says John Murphy, senior vice president and chief financial officer of the company. “In his new role, Matt will continue to guide our finance teams through emergence and beyond to help achieve our long-term financial goals.”
Denton joined Smurfit-Stone in 2006 as vice president of business transformation. In that role, he created a detailed scaling plan for the company’s container division to support the division’s capital investment and overall transformation, according to a Smurfit-Stone news release. He was promoted to vice president of business planning and analysis in 2007.
Prior to joining Smurfit-Stone, Denton worked for Georgia-Pacific from 1992 to 2006, where he held positions ranging from vice president of strategic sourcing for G-P’s North American consumer products and bleached pulp and paper operations to vice president of finance for the company’s containerboard and packaging segment and pulp division. Denton earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University.
Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. is an integrated containerboard and corrugated packaging producers and bills itself as one of the world’s largest paper recyclers.
