Scrap Metal Services Inc. (SMS), Burnham, Illinois, has been awarded the contract to undertake on-site slag management at the Frisa Forjado steel mill in Santa Catarina, Mexico, in the state of Neuvo Leon.
The SMS Mill Services LLC division will manage hot and cold slag, scrap metal and byproducts processing for Monterrey-based Frisa at the Santa Catarina plant, which produces steel seamless rolled rings and open die forgings.
The SMS affiliate SMS Foremex S. de R.L. de C.V. also will be involved in establishing and operating the mill services setup.
SMS and its affiliated companies now have 23 operations in the United States and two in Mexico.
