Scrap Metal Services LLC (SMS), a Burnham, Illinois-based scrap metal recycler, opened its newest scrap metal facility in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, to the public Oct. 26, 2016.
SMS says it is excited at the opportunity to offer the Fort Atkinson and surrounding communities in southern Wisconsin a complete scrap metal recycling solution. By expanding its footprint into Wisconsin, SMS says it also will be able to provide a greater range of products and services to local scrap producers, consumers and foundries.
According to a local press report, the Fort Atkinson Planning Commission recently approved an operational plan with the caveat that all conditions are met by Loeb and SMS. The conditions included receiving formal approval of stormwater- and spill-prevention plans and installation of a separator before any oily scrap is brought in.
Last July, Loeb-Lorman Metals filed for bankruptcy protection.
SMS has aggressively expanded its operations over the past several years, with strategic acquisitions in Indiana and Michigan.
