SMS Mill Services Michigan LLC, based in Chicago, has been awarded a steel slab conditioning agreement with Severstal North America at its Dearborn, Mich., operation. Scrap Metal Services LLC, the parent company of SMS Mill Services Michigan, provides scrap to Severstal North America’s steel mills in Dearborn, Mich., and Columbus, Miss.
Under terms of the agreement, SMS will provide infrastructure, equipment and personnel to fully scarf (skin), cut to length and slice to width steel slabs as required. Working with Pittsburgh-based GeGa Corp. systems, SMS will provide the scarfing services on “hot” slabs to facilitate both timely and cost saving slab rolling.
“We are delighted by this opportunity to again expand our mill service offerings and operations,” says Larry Coe, president of SMS Mill Services. “I am confident our partnership with Severstal North America will be beneficial to both companies.”
SMS operates scrap processing, steel mill services, ship breaking and oil rig dismantlement and intermodal/truck/railcar dismantling facilities in several states. SMS also provides full-service scrap management, consulting and purchasing services to industrial scrap generators and demolition contractors, on a local and national basis.
SMS is a supplier of ferrous and nonferrous scrap commodities to both domestic and international consumers and offers brokerage and trading services to other scrap companies. The company operates scrap facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, Ohio and Texas.
