Sims Metal Management (SMM), based in New York, has announced two senior management appointments, including the creation of a new position.
Alan Ratner, who had served as North America metals (operations) co-president, will now serve as group executive vice president, operations and SHEC (Safety, Health, Environment and Community). Ratner will be responsible for directing SMM’s global SHEC initiative and driving areas like technology and operating best practices across the businesses.
SMM also has announced that it is consolidating its North America metals co-president positions. To fill the new role, Robert Kelman, previously North America metals (commercial) co-president, has been appointed North America metals president. He will now report to Daniel Dienst, group CEO.
Kelman has been in the metal recycling business for more than 25 years, working for Hugo Neu and its joint ventures. After SMM’s acquisition of Hugo Neu’s metal recycling assets in 2005, Kelman became president and COO of Sims Hugo Neu Corp.
Kelman will be responsible for managing the North America business, including all commercial, operations, technology and SHEC functions.
